In 1968, Simon and Garfunkel wrote a song called, “At the Zoo” and it was featured on their Bookends album. The lyrics of the song begin with, “Someone told me it’s all happening at the zoo. I do believe it. I do believe it’s true.”
Those words might either give comfort or consternation to the folks at the Amarillo Zoo in Amarillo, Texas due to the mystery their security cameras captured outside the zoo in the dark and early hours of May 21st.
The city of Amarillo has asked the public for their help identifying the weird, animal-like figure that appeared in the footage. “Is it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk around at night?” they asked on their Facebook page. “Or is it a Chupacabra? Do you have any ideas of what this UAO – Unidentified Amarillo Object could be?”
“It is definitely a strange and interesting image,” said Michael Kashuba, City of Amarillo (COA) Director of Parks and Recreation in an interview with NBCDFW.com. “Maybe Amarillo can help solve the mystery of our UAO.”
The public is more than welcome to submit their own theories on the true identity of the UAO.
“It is [also] important to note that this entity was outside of the Amarillo Zoo,” according to Kashuba. “There were no signs of attempted entry into the zoo. No animals or individuals were harmed. There we no signs of criminal activity or vandalism.”
So what do you think? Hoax or cryptid? Mystery or marketing?
Whatever the case, I believe Simon and Garfunkel had it right – it IS all happening at the zoo.
Happy Friday!!!
I vote for Chupacabra!
