On Wednesday, July 12, a trucker named Saul Vazquez encountered a traffic accident on the highway heading the opposite direction from where he was headed. On his Facebook page he wrote, “I took this picture just few minutes ago from the cab of my truck. It was an accident between Campton and Stanton on the service road just off of the mountain parkway. Zoom in and pay attention to the shadow just off the top of the state trooper hat. All I say is I hope everyone involved is okay!!”
He would later learn that it was a one-vehicle motorcycle accident and the driver died at the scene. Did Saul capture the spirit of the driver as he left his body?
One of my readers shared the website, http://www.oldphotoarchive.com, that recently put together a collection of old ghost photos. My favorite was taken in 1891 by Sybell Corbet, a young woman who was visiting the library at the Combermere Abbey. You’ll notice there’s a man sitting in the chair in the library, a bit blurred and, really, not quite himself. Well, he has a very good excuse. At the time the photo was being taken the gentleman, Lord Combermere, was at a funeral. Actually, it was his own funeral. He had died a few days earlier in a riding accident.
I’m sure you’ve seen photos on the Internet of ghostly faces in windows, “extra” people in group photos or a shadow at the end of the hall. Photos that send shivers up your spine.
I hadn’t thought I’d captured any ghostly images, but I thought for the sake of this blog I’d look through my hundreds of photos and see if anything turned up. It didn’t take me long to discover I might have had some “extra” folks in one of my photos. This photo was taken near Lake Mills, Wisconsin at a place called Aztalan State Park. It’s a place that showcases an ancient Middle-Mississippian village and ceremonial complex that thrived between 1000-1300 A.D. An ancient people who mysteriously disappeared. Well, hmmm, what do you think when you study the photo? Do you think it’s just the tree and leaf formations? Or do you think they didn’t really disappear and we’re just weren’t looking for them in the right places?
