Interrupting cow w….
That was one of my kids’ favorite knock-knock jokes as they were growing up. And we ALWAYS had knock-knock jokes, some made a lot more sense than others. Laughter, jokes and children, they all seem to go together. But do you know what doesn’t go together – children and hunger. Did you know that one in five children in the United States lives in poverty? If you look around your child’s classroom and there are ten rows of desks – two of those rows represent children in poverty, children that might be hungry. And in the United States, we are the privileged ones. There are so many children around the world who live in more devastating circumstances.
Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to helping children and having fun. Proceeds benefit children and young people in the US and some of the poorest communities in the world.
What can we do?
Well, for a start, get involved. Buy a red nose – the money goes to fight child hunger. That’s a good beginning. But I really want you to reach out in your community and see what you can do. Plant an extra row of tomatoes and donate them to the food bank. Buy an extra couple of cans of vegetables and give those to a food pantry. Ask at your local school. Your church. Your community food co-op. And if you are blessed to have a little extra, find a charity that helps children and give a little more.
We are the answer to “who will help?”
I hope the answer is YOU!
